ashstar
a dark gray and white tabby tom with blue eyes
* * *
Age: forty four moons
Gender: tom
Rank: leader (?)
Clan: gustclan
* * *
Appearance: When it comes to looks, Ashstar is just an ordinary cat. The only distinguishing feature he has is a long scar that travels through his left eye and down his face. Of course, he has experienced many battles and due to those battles, he has a geography of scars painted across his entire body. Apart from the wounds, Ashstar has no other significant features. His fur is a mixture between coal gray and white with darker stripes striking through. On his chest is a large patch of white which stretches up to cover the bottom and center of his face. There is a streak of that snow-colored fur directly between his eyes. Speaking of his eyes, they are a dark blue color, similar to the color of lake water.
Ashstar may not have broad shoulders, but it'd be best to not underestimate him. After many, many moons of tough training, Ashstar has acquired a great amount of muscle. Most of that muscle is located in his hind legs, giving him the build of a hunter rather than a fighter.
Personality: When one thinks of a leader, they may typically think of a noble, courageous cat with no fears and a deep respect for their warrior ancestors. However, when Ashstar's name is spoken, many often incorporate him with the terms: calculating, cold and impatient. And, without doubt, entirely loyal to both his Clan and his warrior ancestors. Despite his flaws, Ashstar has proved himself over and over again as a faithful leader of GustClan. Even though he may have a sharp tongue and an indifference to many subjects, Ashstar cares for his Clan more than anything else. Like any other leader, he would give up each and every one of his lives for each cat in GustClan.
clever & open-minded: Ashstar, even as an apprentice, had always been the one to practically over-analyze everything. That habit of his came in handy numerous times over, especially in the heat of battle or when he was out on a hunting patrol. As stated before, he doesn't have the advantage of a bulky build or broad muscles - so instead, he uses his logic to succeed in battles. That, and swiftness. Unlike other cats that plunge into battle without a second thought, Ashstar plans every single detail, every fiber, everything in his head before making rash decisions. The GustClan leader is also known for his open-mindedness, although he often has to remind himself to keep an open mind. During heated arguments at gatherings or within his Clan, Ashstar is always willing to consider any other plausible ideas.
straightforward & temperamental: It's not secret that the leader of GustClan isn't the kindest cat in the forest. With his generally lanky build, one would not expect that he'd have such a harsh temper. However, most of the times, his clanmates do not see this side of him, expect when they accompany him on a border patrol to one of the Clans. He's been known to take some subject a bit too sensitively, and when that happens, it'd be best to not bother him. Ashstar isn't the kind of cat to go yowling his anger throughout the Clan, but it's clear when he's agitated. Normally his eyes would be narrowed, his tail would be lashing, claws unsheathed and gripping the ground, and his body would be tensed up as if he were about to lunge at an attacker. Luckily enough, his "moods" fade away after an hour or so. Ashstar isn't the type of cat to sit and blabber about useless/helpless topics - instead, he'd just rather shoot to the point.
brave & faithful: There's no denying the fact that Ashstar is completely and irrevocably loyal to his Clan. Then again, what leader isn't loyal to their Clan? GustClan is his home, and he would die to protect it which leads us to another one of his traits - brave. Especially when he's in the midst of battle, Ashstar appears to be fearless as he faces his enemies with a curled lip and a fiery rage burning in those ocean-blue eyes. But even when he's not in battle, Ashstar has often led patrols to chase many creatures off his land and he does it without complaint. In fact, he quite enjoys it - it keeps his family safe, and as long as they're safe, then he's happy.
History: There had never really been any complicated events that occurred during the majority of his kithood. He had been born as Ashkit, the only son of Heatherflower and Adderstrike, and the only brother to Mistkit and Tawnykit. At a young age, it became painfully apparent that he was intelligent and even had quite the temper. Ashkit often boasted about how he'd be the greatest warrior of GustClan and how he'd one day defeat all the Clans in what he called the "Great Battle". Clearly, he was a dreamer but little did he know that his dream (some of it, at least) would come true one day. At the time, however, he was just another naive and rambunctious kit.
He had always looked up to his leader and father. Ashkit was fascinated with the ways of the warriors, and made it his inner goal to one day impress both the leader of GustClan and Adderstrike. His father visited he and his sisters less and less as the days passed, and soon enough, he stopped visiting all together when they reached six moons. The leader had assigned him to a cranky, impatient cat known as Lionstep. His mentor was one of the senior warriors at the time and despite his positive reputation, Ashpaw didn't exactly appreciate the warrior. Lionstep was stubborn to no end, battle-hungry and complicated. However, he was a great mentor, and there was simply no denying that. Lionstep taught Ashpaw to never hold back, and to uphold the Warrior code at all costs. He was always honest with the young apprentice and whenever Ashpaw made an error, he'd point it out to him and then order for him to try again. And, no matter how many times the warrior annoyed the apprentice, Ashpaw never regretted being his apprentice. Each day was tough, but in the end, he knew it would all pay off.
It was one leafbare afternoon when things began to change. Ashpaw was returning from a patrol when he received news of the death of his sister, Tawnypaw. His sister had accidentally eaten death berries (many suspected that she did it on purpose, to escape the harsh leafbare) but, accident or not, Ashpaw was devastated. After the death of Tawnypaw, Ashpaw became more secluded and acquired a temper similar to his mentor. When it came time for his warrior ceremony, Ashpaw was certain that he was ready. He was named Ashshadow, and his sister was named Mistdrop. He only wished that he could have shared the experience with Tawnypaw.
Warrior life was..not what he had expected. Somehow he had hoped for many outrageous battles and adventures but hardly any of the sort happened, save for a few battle skirmishes. There had been no "Great Battle" like he had predicted when he was just an innocent kit. Warrior life was definitely no fun and games either, though. It was all about patrols and catching food for his Clan, but he had no complaints. As long as he was keeping his clanmates well-fed, then he was satisfied. Leafbare was his only real problem, but surely that was understandable. Oh, and all the other clans. Ashshadow was a brave and clever warrior, so it was no surprise when he was appointed as the deputy when Hawkfeather, the GustClan deputy, died of greencough. Some of his clanmates were unsure at first but when he quickly adjusted to his life as deputy, they quickly grew to accept him.
After countless moons, patrols and battle skirmishes - Ashshadow became leader of GustClan, at long last.

hailstar had always been a major part in her life, even when he was just hailkit. that seemed like ages ago - when it had just been goldenkit and hailkit on the top of the world. and then after his ceremony rolled around..things just changed, much to her dislike. then in came redpaw and after that things were never really the same. but, through it all, goldensky was relatively pleased with the outcome. she still had her friend and she had the family she had ever wished for. despite the fact that she and hailstar hardly spent any time together, goldensky was still worried for his health which was exactly why she spoke her next words. "are you okay?[/color]" she mewed, voice layered with concern for the white tom. there was no use in hiding the fact that she still cared about him.
